My early biology research covered metagenoics, microbial identification, and molecular biology.

Here are the final presentations that we proposed alongside an short summary of the work that was completed.

Metagenomics research

Summary

A year long reaserch project that focused on metagenomics and the diversity of microbiomes .

What we did

DNA was extracted from soil samples, cloned into bacterial artificial chromosome vectors and screened for antimicrobial activity.

Levearged next-generation sequencing (NGS) on a region of microbial 16S ribosomal RNA genes to identify and quantify bacteria in campus soil samples.

Determined the relationship between the sampled microbiomes qualifying how different locations, although nearby, can host extremely unique set of organisims.

Waksman Institute research

Prior to the advanced metagenomic reaserch, I started my biology reasearch with the Rutgers University's Waksman Institute.

I grew individual bacterial colonies inserted with engineered plasmids identifiable by selectable markers. By doing so we examined the function, process, and impact of proteins in Landoltia punctata. This resulted in multiple DNA-sequences novel submissions to NCBI national database.
